Adequate mineral absorption into our bones is dependent on other nutrients and boron may be one of them. While there is not a lot known about this trace element and its role in our body, it’s thought to increase the absorption of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus into our bones and decrease the amount that is lost and excreted in our urine. The more we absorb and the less we excrete, the better our bone health is likely to be.
There is limited research in this area, but a lack of boron may increase the chance of bone density loss, osteoporosis and arthritis.(1)
Boron can be found in nuts, fresh fruits and green vegetables.(2) The content of boron in food depends on the amount found in the growing soil.
